Loved this.

This is awesome. "In a scene, you’re not a node within a single network; you’re linked to a larger web of intersecting sub-networks, with access to a wider universe of people to reach, know, and understand." Love it

Patrick, interesting article. I’m in HK soon, where is good for visual arts?

Prior art: https://kk.org/thetechnium/scenius-or-comm/

"Scenius is like genius, only embedded in a scene rather than in genes. Brian Eno suggested the word to convey the extreme creativity that groups, places or “scenes” can occasionally generate. His actual definition is: “Scenius stands for the intelligence and the intuition of a whole cultural scene. It is the communal form of the concept of the genius.”

Individuals immersed in a productive scenius will blossom and produce their best work. When buoyed by scenius, you act like genius. Your like-minded peers, and the entire environment inspire you."

This elevated the whole discourse around the “loneliness epidemic.” Great work

I really enjoyed this! I grew up in Mumbai and while I’m not immersed in its “scene,” I know it exists and thrives in the same way you described Hong Kong. Living in Sydney, I feel part of a community or multiple communities, but I’ve yet to find a “scene.” That was a nice revelation for me, so thank you for this piece.

I've been reading Chris DeVille's book Such Great Heights about the rise of indie rock and it's varying sub cultures, and it reminded me of this piece. There's something about a scene that can be so core to identity and personal values that a "community" can't always provide. I'll forever be intrinsically connected on some level with the late 90s DIY southern Vermont punk rock scene, which probably was not all that dissimilar from other scenes across the country at the time. Anyway, good stuff here.

Inspiring - as a brand strategist, it hit something I can’t put my finger on, yet. Thank you for sharing 🦋
