#12: Jesse Yu
Teamfight Tactics 🐧♟️, Australia 🇦🇺🦘, Blue Bottle in Central 💧☕, and Puma Ultras ⚽
FAST AND FURIOUS ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD
Football player Jesse Yu darts around the pitch “like an arrow” — that’s what his fans say, at least. The 23-year-old began his professional athletic career in the Hong Kong Premier League in 2020 and is the center midfielder for Eastern Football Club. Already, Jesse boasts a globe-trotting career — only in the last two months, he’s travelled to Fiji, Liechtenstein, the Philippines, and Sydney for football training and friendly matches. When asked for a list of countries he’s travelled for work, he lists 13 in total, but says “that’s probably not all.” On the pitch, Jesse likes “giving pressure to the opponent. I usually do it in a short explosive way, and that’s why they regard me like an arrow.” This playstyle has brought Jesse to tournaments such as the Asian Games and AFC Champions League Two. Here’s what the athlete recommends on THE CHOW:
Play Teamfight Tactics 🐧♟️
I've been playing a lot of Teamfight Tactics, a laptop video game that’s kind of like League of Legends but chess version.
So unlike Call of Duty where you have to be really focused and committed, Teamfight Tactics is a calming game — you can relax in bed, just press some buttons, and it's one of the easier games to play.
It's not too complicated and doesn’t require you to sit up and focus, which is why I really like it. I just like chilling in my bed and just not having to do anything too hard.
Go to Sydney 🇦🇺🦘
I went to Sydney recently to play a game against Sydney FC — and what a place. It was so nice. The weather was amazing. The food there was great.
Even just in the hotel, the breakfast was amazing because it felt like a home cooked meal. Just a normal, traditional English breakfast, with bacon, eggs, scrambled eggs, sausages. Back home, you don't really have too much western food.
We went to Sydney opera house, it was bustling, we sat next to the harbor and the seagulls were there. The whole scene, the whole feeling felt so fresh and the weather was really nice as well.
Blue Bottle Coffee in Central 💧☕
My teammates and I usually go to Blue Bottle in Central. We don’t love their drinks but we like spent time with each other, and just people-watch and talk about life. There’s a spot there where you could sit at the top flor, look out the whole glass window, and you just see people walking around and doing their own thing.
The Puma Ultras ⚽🐯
The Puma Ultras — they're really light and they fit my play style. My feet are a little bit more narrow, and these boots are really narrow and have tight fit, which is nice.
I think they’re the lightest boots in the world right now. And everyone loves light boots because you can move quicker with them. I need to sprint a lot in short periods of time and in short distances. Lighter boots help me make those movements. And with thin boots you get more of the feel of the ball, which I like. Maybe some people would prefer a more protective boot in case they get stepped on, but for me, I like a bit more physical contact with the ball between the ball and my feet.
Take your supplements 💊
Vitamins, electrolytes, and protein powders… these things help you refuel, especially after training. Outside of the pitch, you have to be able to take care of yourself, in regards of rest and recovery.
